top 5 movies

Ok.....I started reading this thread, but couldn't reply until I though about it a bit....so I thought up my top 5 on the *******!

Here we go.....

1) Shawshank Redemption - This movie brings out all kinds of emotions with me. Its sad, hateful, and wonderful at the end.

2) American Beauty - Definately a weird one.....but very unique and one-of-a-kind. Great acting.

3) Field of Dreams - Magical, woderful movie. One that you can watch over and over and not get tired of it.

4) American Pie - Funniest movie I've ever seen. Raised the bar of "teen movies".

5) Sandlot - One that I loved as a kid. Havn't seen it lately, but it's a fun movie with a light storyline.

There are so many awesome movies.....I'm sure as soon as I leave for work I'll kick myself for not remembering some other movie. doh!

Requiem for a Dream is a fantastic film that managed to actually out-do Hubert Selby Jr.'s best (in my opinion) book. If you like your movies dark, depressing, and extremely well-made, you should like Requiem for a Dream.
no i don't work for artisan or anything, it's just my favorite movie ever.
oh yeah, don't see the "edited version" that's available at most video rental stores, too much important plot material (such as THE ENDING!) are cut out of it.
See it/ read up at IMDB or something about it, enjoy it!

way too difficult. but here are five films, in no order, that have either a direct influence on my life of my filmmaking style/aspirations.

The Empire Strikes Back - since i grew up with star wars, and if it wasn't for star wars i wouldn't be this tortured wannabe filmmaker i am today :-D

UHF - unpretentious fun. it's weird-al, need i say more?

Man Bites Dog - this film shows how to be creative with your production values and format. their filmschool tutor supplied them with b&w 16mm stock. if it wasn't this it'd have to be Spinal Tap. but Man Bites Dog goes up to eleven because of the rape scene. ;-)

Saving Private Ryan - this is the first war movie that made me truly feel for those souls who are lost during times of war (or terror ...)

The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb - strangest animation i've ever seen. it's images have left a lasting mental impression. filmed with wind-up bolexes unless i'm very much mistaken.


BTW, i pretty much hate Independence Day, too. go and watch 'V', it's infinitely better. the fact that ID4 is a remake of War of the Worlds is even more laughable. but it's proof that alien invaders will be running MacOS.

V the original 4 hour mini series in one of my fave tv shows EVER.

I still enjoyed Independence Day though.

Haha, sorry guys, I don't mean to go on about this, but it's something you said a few posts ago about Indipendance day and the apple mac....and dont get me wrong, Im absaloutley not knocking them!

But Jeff Goldbloom...all the specialy trained people working for various government's with super computers at their disposal...and Jeff goldbloom figures out the alien code with an Apple mac...even worse than sending oil rig drillers up in Armaggeddon, they send a noisy fighter pilot and a TV company man up to the biggest threat to humankind...the very thought gives me chuckles from time to time.

Pickiong a top five is difficult, it depends what mood you're in and what films you have recently watched as you always forget how good some films are, anyhoo:

1- Seven Samurai - Clearly the best film ever.
2- Armour of God - Jackie Chan's most underrated and best film. How can you go wrong with a fight scene containing one man versus a bazillion monks (maybe not that many!)?
